Seabear
Whenever I think of Seabear, I think of the time I was studying abroad in Beijing. Although Seabear is a group from Reykjavík, Iceland, their sound and lyrics always remind me of the warmth and familiarity of home. Here are lyrics from one of my favorite songs, I Sing I Swim.
Throw me a dream please, it’s been a dreamless sleep For such a long time, such a long time Sing myself...

Pure at Heart
I’ve been in a really funky mood lately. I can’t seem to listen to the same type of music for more than 4 minutes at a time. Maybe it is this dreary weather that makes my vitamin D levels plummet and causes my attention span to cut in half. I finally have some spare time to write a post (Basil is clearly kicking my ass) and this is what I am currently listening to. Hopefully, by...

Swedish Goodness
If there is one thing we undoubtedly love here at LTB, it is definitely Swedish pop. Unlike Robyn and Lykke Li, JJ is a bit more airy (not that the giant cannabis leaf on the album cover means anything…). Elin Kastlande leads the duo with her velvet smooth voice. Think an electronic Imogen Heap with some island beats. Their debut album JJ Nº 2, appeared in spring 2009. The album, which...

Giddy Up!
Time for a mid-week pick-me-up! It is nearly impossible to feel down with French Pop music, and Pony Pony Run Run does not let down. They first formed in 2003 and released their first album, You Need Pony Pony Run Run, on June 15th 2009. Maybe it is their French roots, but they do remind me of Phoenix with a dash of Weezer.
Pony Pony Run Run - “Hey You”

Who's That Girl?
Amanda Blank = One Badass Chick. This sassy girl from Philly has collaborated with Ghostface Killah, M.I.A., and Santigold (to just name a few). With her overtly sexual lyrics and dance beats, I’m sure you won’t forget her anytime soon.
Amanda Blank - “Shame on Me (Viking Remix)”
Amanda Blank - “Might Like You Better”
Amanda Balnk - “Lemme Get...

Toro Y Moi
Chaz Bundick, lead singer of The Heist and The Accomplice, has embarked on a solo project. A bit more electronic (think Passion Pit) than his regular gig. He resides in Columbia, South Carolina. I’m really diggin’ the Blessa track.
Toro Y Moi - “Blessa”
Toro Y Moi - “Low Shoulder”

Like Dominos!
Here are some party beats to start your weekend off. The Big Pink, a British electro-rock group will definitely get you singing along. They just released their first album, A Brief History of Love, in September. They have previously supported TV On The Radio, Florence & The Machine, Crystal Castles and Klaxons.

Fruit Bats
The Fruit Bats combine folk + pop. With their mellow beats and airy lyrics, be sure to keep an eye on them. Fruit Bats is led by guitarist, pianist and singer Eric D. Johnson, the band’s main songwriter and only constant member. Originally part of short-lived Chicago group I Rowboat, a Velvet Underground-inspired indie rock band. Johnson and two of his fellow Rowboat members, guitarist Dan...

Best of the Decade
Raise your hand if you can believe we are in a new decade! Yeah, that’s what I thought.
What is your favorite song of the 00’s? I am severely under-qualified since I was 13 in 2000. A time where my life was consumed with Backstreet Boys, Linkin Park and Blink 182. Nonetheless, here are my top ten in no particular order. Ask me in a week and I’m sure things will change.

Joyful! Joyful!
Oh the joy (and complexity) of love! Camera Obscura pins the feeling down in this song off their top-notch album My Maudlin Career:

Cover Me Pretty
Here are some kickass covers. Some are even better than the originals!
Dr. Dog - “Heart is Race (Architecture in Helsinki cover)”
Ben Lee - “Kids (MGMT cover)”
Gareth Pearson - Time To Pretend (MGMT cover)
Bat For Lashes - “Use Somebody (Kings of Leon cover)”
Discovery - I Want You Back (Jackson 5 cover)

Shiver Me Timbers
Argh! With a band name like Dead Man’s Bones, one would expect this band to be on the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean. However, this band’s melodic beats are inspired by the Langley Schools Music Project and Nancy Dupree’s Ghetto Reality, where children are an imperative part of the sound. The children in this track hail from the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, the...

Oh say say say
This is Julie Mehretu. (badass photie right?). She is an Ethiopian-born American artist who won the McArthur Award (aka Genius Grant) in 2005.
She is quoted as saying: “Maps aren’t necessarily truths.” I friggin agree! Just thinking about shrinking massive spaces into a digestible collection of grids and tree clumps makes the validity of maps seems absurd. I’m pretty...

To begin again
2010 - which will it be?
It’s gonna be a good year. Out of the darkness and into the fire.

here i am in the graveyard waiting for a war
The Morning Benders - “Waiting for a War”
So this is the New Year…And I don’t feel any different
